Caroline B.'s story, as told by her mother, Chelsea:

Caroline B. was born in May 2013 less than a minute after her twin sister, Avery. Although the twins were 10 weeks early, we knew Caroline was potentially facing a life-threatening condition.

Caroline was immediately transported to CHKD and diagnosed with TE-Fistula. It essentially means she could not swallow into her stomach. Her first surgery was within 24 hours and she would go on to have one more major “repair” surgery a month before being discharged in September 2013.

Since coming home, Caroline has been treated at CHKD for all of her medical needs. With the help of occupational therapists, speech therapists, doctors, nurses, and in particular her surgeon Dr. Robert Kelly, she overcame many obstacles involving growth and eating.

Caroline lives a happy and healthy life today. She enjoys soccer, superhero's and spending time with her best friend, Avery.
