WHAT IS THIS CHALLENGE ABOUT?

“You have to motivate yourself with challenges. That’s how you know you’re still alive.” – Jerry Seinfeld

We all have challenges. Some we put upon ourselves and some are put upon us . . .

I have never been a real athlete and especially not a runner. As we rang 2015 in, I challenged myself to run a half marathon. I had never run more than a 10k (6.2 miles), which had only happened once. On March 20, 2015, I crossed the Yuengling Shamrock Half Marathon finish line in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 11 seconds. Since then I have run twelve half marathons and multiple 10ks, 8ks and 5ks. I have also been involved with the J&A Training Team for six seasons, and I have been a J&A Racing Ambassador for two years.

I have wanted to challenge myself to a full marathon, but I wanted to do it for a reason. So my participation in the 2018 Yuengling Shamrock Marathon is honoring the children who have faced their own challenges as youth and had to be helped by the services of the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). Each mile will be dedicated to an individual who has been a patient at CHKD.

Whether life-threatening, life-altering, life-lasting or just a minor hiccup these children have faced a wide array of medical challenges. No child should have to face these challenges alone. So I am joining CHKD to stand in these children’s corner, as well as all of the children who will be helped in the future, and help recognize them for the battles they are facing or have faced and overcome. I challenge you to join me in their corner . . .

I am raising funds through the Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fund (HHCFCF) for CHKD. Individuals, Companies, Organizations, Groups can donate to the challenge in general, or they may donate in honor of a particular child/mile.

The Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fund is a registered non-profit 501 (c)(3). Federal Tax ID # 26-0812693. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
